Research : Philip Clarke (Pic)

First we decided to look at the stories mentioned within our meeting with the client. Our client mentioned that the name of the school is Ceol Oirghialla meaning Oriel Music. The name comes form traditional Irish stories and mythology from the locality of Louth, Meath and Armagh, which were once one kingdom Oirghialla.
Two of the stories mentioned were The Brown Bull of Cooley and The Harp of Dagda.

For me this suggests a traditional design, elegant and decorative possibly including celtic knotwork and denoting Irish Heritage or an established classical look. However it was also mention that although the trebble cleff symbol may be elegant and decorative, that the client would like somthing new.

There were also a number of other elements and considerations which were mentioned by the client including that the schools courses include classical, musical, performance and recording within all courses and also that the school periodically performs shows and productions locally, and this may be somthing which should be taken into account within the design process.

This logo will be displayed on a variety of mediums and must translate well to both black and white and color printed, promotional and administrative material. It must be visually effective and representational of the department and school, but it must also compliment the existing DKIT logo and graphical visual idenity of the institute.
